Bring water polo to your community.

Your roadmap

Your Path to Starting a Club

Starting a club doesn't have to happen all at once. Follow these steps to build the foundation for your new water polo program.

01Apply to Start a ClubTell us about your community and your plans.

Complete the WPS New Club Application Form and submit it to WPS. Once received, a WPS staff member will connect with you to guide you through the next steps.

Request the New Club Application Form →
02Secure Pool TimeFind a consistent place for your club to train.

Connect with your local aquatic facility to determine what pool space is available and establish regular weekly training time.

Recommended Weekly Training

Age Group Recommended Frequency
9U 1x per week
12U 2x per week
14U 2x per week
16U+ 3x per week
Starting small is okay. New clubs do not need separate training times for every age group. Athletes of different ages can train together while membership grows.

WPS staff can help determine a structure that works with your available pool time, number of athletes, and coaching capacity.

03Identify Your Coaching StaffFind the people who will lead your athletes on deck.

Identify coaches and volunteers interested in helping deliver your programs. They don't need to have everything completed before you begin planning—WPS can help new coaches navigate their training and development pathway.

WPS will help your coaching staff understand:

  • Coach registration and screening requirements
  • Required and recommended coach education
  • NCCP water polo coaching pathways
  • Available coach development opportunities
  • Financial support available for coach training

04Build Your Club StructurePut the basic framework for your club in place.

Your club will need to identify its leadership structure, programs, and key operating documents.

  • Club leadership and board structure
  • Policies and bylaws
  • Code of Conduct
  • Programs and age groups offered
  • Club fees and operating structure

WPS can provide templates, examples, and guidance to help develop the documents your club needs.

06Set Up Your Registration SystemGet ready to accept registrations.

WPS will work with your club to establish its registration system through RAMP.

  1. WPS creates your club's RAMP registration site.
  2. Your designated club representative receives access.
  3. Your club adds its information and creates registration packages.
  4. WPS provides assistance throughout the initial setup.

Once complete, you'll have a central location for athletes, coaches, and volunteers to register.

07Register Your MembersBuild your first club roster.

Once registration is open, athletes, coaches, and applicable club volunteers can register through your club's RAMP system.

WPS will help your club understand the appropriate provincial and national membership requirements for each participant type. Water Polo Canada currently requires clubs to affiliate through its national registration system and comply with applicable registration requirements.

08Start Playing! It's time to get in the pool.

Launch your regular training schedule and start building your water polo community.

As a WPS club, athletes can access development and competition opportunities appropriate for their age and experience, including Community League opportunities. As your club grows, WPS will continue working with your coaches and club leadership to develop your programs.
